East Fork

East Fork of the san Gabriel river is a very special place to me. The trail to the Bridge to Know where was on of the first trails in the San Gabriel Mountains fascinating history of the area. The land is beautiful, the river and canyons are some of the most beautiful in the area.

The Bridge is the main attraction of the trail. This can be very popular on the weekends, Recommend an early start. The trail is easy with out a lot of elevation gain. River crossings are the main obstacles. pending the season and weather the crossings can be high and not well marked. In fair conditions logs and rocks are well marked and crossings are easier. River shoes are recommended. trekking poles are always handy for crossings as well.

There are many mines in the area the history as a placer community still is present. Foundations of the old bank can be seen near the parking area. and miners are still present today. All planing and south boxes are illegal, but enforcement does not seem present. Many camps along the river are present and quit well established.

If your looking to get away from the crowds of the trail on a weekend. around the 3.5 mile make just follow the wash up the canyon. There are many place to find a moment of peace next to the river. If you haven’t seen the bridge it is worth the hike. just can be busy during the midday. If nature and isolation is you goal there is plenty to be had. just need to venture off the path a little bit.
